On 25 May 2025, a violent altercation occurred in a major shopping centre known as Northland, located in the northeast of Melbourne, Australia.
According to media reports and police statements, the altercation was a planned meet up between two rival gangs, forcing the shopping centre to enact lockdown drills involving shoppers taking refuge inside stores that were locked by owners.
A key notice of the reports is that some of the offenders were armed with edged weapons, with one CCTV still shot showing a fighting-age male armed with a machete.
